Fall/Winter 2012 Trends: Baroque

This is the first post in our Fall/Winter 2012 Trends series. We’ll be taking a look at upcoming Fall/Winter fashions, and will give you a better understanding of each trend as well as an easy way to rock them. Get your notebooks out…

Baroque

Think dramatic, luxurious, and detailed

  • Derived from words meaning “rough or imperfect pearl”
  • Period of artistic style with exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail
  • Started around 1600 in Rome and Italy

What to expect:

  • Embroidery
  • Gold
  • Symmetrical patterns
  • Fabrics fit for a queen: velvet, leather, silk, suede, mesh

Baroque is…

  • ornate
  • dramatic
  • sophisticated
  • bold
  • luxurious
  • embellished
  • detailed
  • rich

How to wear it

Channel your inner Queen or Aristocratic Vampire (whatever floats your boat). Keep in mind that there’s no such thing as “over doing it” in this brave, baroque new world. Opt for heels, exaggerated collars, frills around your wrists, jeweled headbands, dresses with wallpaper patterns, silk scarves, leather pants, geometric silhouettes, and red lips.

Best colors

  • Black
  • White
  • Gold
  • Red
  • Deep Plum
  • Silver

How you do it
