Trending: He Loves Me Not

You enjoy the morbid task of ripping petals off of flowers to see if your crush likes you back. Shaking a magic 8 ball decides your future, and you still find yourself folding cootie catchers out of scraps of paper. You rely solely on a mood ring to let you know how you feel at any given time, and don’t even get me started on that black cat that crossed your path this morning. Felines shouldn’t be allowed to dictate whether you’re unlucky or not anyways. But breaking a mirror on the other hand, well, you’re just shit out of luck now…literally.

This Spring/Summer, daisy prints will be taking over every wardrobe. Don’t miss out on this 90’s come back while making your daisy chains.

He loves me, he loves me not.

Trending: Ankle Cuffs

It’s the little things that really make the largest impact, and your outfits are no exception. Trending for any and all seasons, is the golden ankle cuff – a sleek and modern accessory that manages to hold all of the sophistication of a Grecian Goddess, or perhaps even Cleopatra herself.

Fall/Winter 2012 Trends: School Girl Chic

This is the fourth post in our Fall/Winter 2012 Trends series. We’ll be taking a look at upcoming Fall/Winter fashions, and will give you a better understanding of each trend as well as an easy way to rock them. Get your notebooks out…

School Girl Chic

Think detention, recess, and excuses like “the dog ate my homework”

  • The founding of the primary education system began in 425 AD
  • Preppy fashion began in the late 1940’s and 50’s
  • It’s time for you to go watch The Breakfast Club

What to expect:

  • Skirts
  • Sweaters
  • Collars
  • Cardigans/Leather Jackets
  • Tons of metal accessories

School Girl Chic is…

  • rebellious
  • geeky
  • preppy
  • clique-breaking
  • accessorized
  • posh

How to wear it

This may be my personal favorite of all the Fall/Winter 2012 trends. It’s the easiest look to put together, and anyone can pull it off. Simply start by dressing preppy in the most cliche way possible, then, replace some items with edgy, rock star inspired pieces. This is Ms. Valedictorian- was-caught-smoking-behind-the-bleachers-and-had-a-whole-lot-of-fun-in-detention. Mix a pleated skirt and a collared button up with a black leather jacket and combat boots. Wear a collared dress with a belt cinching the waist, and an over sized plaid jacket on top. Basically, do 80’s prep meets 90’s grunge and you’ll do just fine.

Best colors

  • Black
  • White
  • Pastels

Fall/Winter 2012 Trends: Capes and Cloaks

This is the second post in our Fall/Winter 2012 Trends series. We’ll be taking a look at upcoming Fall/Winter fashions, and will give you a better understanding of each trend as well as an easy way to rock them. Get your notebooks out…

Capes and Cloaks

Think whimsical, polished, and high end

  • Capes are a sleeveless outerwear, that are usually long and only cover the wearer’s back while fastening around the neck
  • Most common in Medieval Europe
  • Capes are typically short, while cloaks are longer

What to expect:

  • Dramatic styles
  • Blanket Capes
  • Capelets
  • Fabrics: knit, leather, fur, cotton, satin

Capes are…

  • fairy tale-esque
  • dramatic
  • flowing
  • luxurious
  • vampire/super hero inspired
  • chic
  • polished

How to wear it

I’ve been in love with vampires for as long as I can remember (yes, even before Twilight…), so I’m alright with all of the vampy trends popping up this Fall/Winter. I mean, sure, some of us may look like we’re simply role playing, but if done right, I believe the cape can be chic, edgy, and quite sophisticated if you ask me! A few years back I had been looking for the perfect cape – I never did find it – but I’m hopeful that this season brings more options. Each cape, cloak, and capelet must be styled differently. Some cloaks can be belted, while others must simply drape across your body. Don’t be afraid to try new things! …Just avoid looking like a character from Lord of the Rings…not that it would be a totally bad thing.

Best colors

  • Black
  • Charcoal
  • Blue
  • Red
  • Deep Plum

Fall/Winter 2012 Trends: Baroque

This is the first post in our Fall/Winter 2012 Trends series. We’ll be taking a look at upcoming Fall/Winter fashions, and will give you a better understanding of each trend as well as an easy way to rock them. Get your notebooks out…

Baroque

Think dramatic, luxurious, and detailed

  • Derived from words meaning “rough or imperfect pearl”
  • Period of artistic style with exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail
  • Started around 1600 in Rome and Italy

What to expect:

  • Embroidery
  • Gold
  • Symmetrical patterns
  • Fabrics fit for a queen: velvet, leather, silk, suede, mesh

Baroque is…

  • ornate
  • dramatic
  • sophisticated
  • bold
  • luxurious
  • embellished
  • detailed
  • rich

How to wear it

Channel your inner Queen or Aristocratic Vampire (whatever floats your boat). Keep in mind that there’s no such thing as “over doing it” in this brave, baroque new world. Opt for heels, exaggerated collars, frills around your wrists, jeweled headbands, dresses with wallpaper patterns, silk scarves, leather pants, geometric silhouettes, and red lips.

Best colors

  • Black
  • White
  • Gold
  • Red
  • Deep Plum

Inspiration: Bohemian Goddess

Made universally popular after its debut on the runway for Chanel’s 2012 Bombay Collection, head chains are making waves. These unique accessories are the tiara of the 21st century, and add that instant Goddess like quality to any outfit. Whether your style is girly, boho, edgy, grunge, hipster, goth, or anything in between, you can definitely rock this style with confidence.

So, will you play Princess in a stylish head chain?

Trending: The Pleated Skirt

When you ponder the existence of pleated skirts, your mind instantly travels to school uniforms complete with a boring polo and a fitted blazer. Or, if you’re like me, and if you were alive in the 90’s, you think of a much more provocative take on the pleated skirt – Baby One More Time, anyone??

You can put away your Britney Spears Halloween costumes now, because fashion has gotten its hands on this skirt, and I’m afraid there’s no going back. We can all wear one without feeling as if we’re about to take part in some kinky student/teacher role play, or, if you’re into that kind of thing, you can be well prepared while looking oh so stylish.

No matter your style, there’s a pleated skirt that will work for you. I’m partial to the leather – but if that doesn’t scream naughty school girl, I don’t know what does. I’ll leave that for you to decide.

So, do you love them or hate them??

Trending: Round Sunnies

Round sunglasses aren’t a foreign concept in the fashion world. I mean, look back a year or two and you’ll see that they were trending in full swing. Just like karma, these babies have come right back ’round (yeahh, cheesy pun intended). Who would have thought that a simple round lens would set you apart from all those girls you don’t even talk to on your Facebook newsfeed?

See that instagram picture above?? Yeah, that one. Well, those will be available soon at AmbryLane.com. Plus, you should follow us on instagram >> @ambrylane
